For the past 8 years, we’ve entered into the ‘Best Family Business Of The Year’ category at the National Entrepreneur Awards, a celebration of reward and recognition for entrepreneurs all over the UK.
Last year, we were ecstatic to announce that we made it to the finals. This year?
We’re finalists for a fourth time!

What Are The National Entrepreneur Awards?
The National Entrepreneur Awards is an annual event designed to promote entrepreneurship, empower people to start their own businesses and reward and recognise those who are making their dreams become reality by doing just that.
Open to all UK entrepreneurial businesses, the competition features eight categories including ‘Most Impressive Growth’, ‘Best Customer Service’ and, the category we chose to enter, ‘Best Family Business Of The Year’.
Family Businesses Are Essential
Family businesses run on deep-set value systems, connection and teamwork. They employ millions UK-wide, invest in their staff and create a loyal following of people who believe in their vision.
But it’s not just about them. Family businesses contribute heavily to their communities and often work with other local small businesses to boost robust supply chains that support our country’s economy.
Family businesses lean hard into creativity and innovation to keep their company ahead of competitors, grounded by a strong sense of legacy and heavily invested in authentic customer relationships. They win and keep business by offering valuable services and products and listening to their clients.
Our Story
June and David Browne laid the foundations of The Scottish Shutter Company in 1987 with what was then ‘The Fabric Shop’ on Dundee’s Perth Road, famous for its curtains. After an increasing demand for blinds and shutters, June and David brought in their first stock and the new products took centre stage.
Since the beginning, the core values and exceptional service that David and June founded have stuck fast, propelling the company to success soon into its journey. These days, June takes a backseat to focus on quality time in other areas of her life, like her beautiful grandchildren.
David, who is the brains in the background ensuring everything runs smoothly, is accompanied by Judith and David D’Ambrosio to form a strong, capable and innovative team committed to great customer service, flawless products and steady company growth.
What An Honour!
Recognising being chosen as a finalist in the 11th Annual National Entrepreneur Awards has us jumping for joy at the Scottish Shutter Company HQ.
