Last updated: April 2026 · Reviewed annually each April
1. Policy statement
The Scottish Shutter Company (trading name of Rocknowe Interiors Limited) is committed to minimising the environmental impact of our operations. We recognise our responsibility to protect the environment and to operate as sustainably as is reasonably practicable for a business of our size.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all our business activities, including our premises, Design Studios, installation work in customers' homes, and the products and services we provide.
3. Our commitments
We are committed to:
Waste reduction and recycling
- Minimising waste generated during installation, including packaging materials, offcuts, and redundant fixings.
- Separating and recycling materials wherever possible, including cardboard, plastic packaging, and timber offcuts.
- Removing all installation waste from the customer's home and disposing of it responsibly. We never leave waste for the customer to deal with.
- Reducing paper use through digital quotations, order processing, and communication.
Energy and transport
- Planning installation routes efficiently to reduce unnecessary mileage.
- Maintaining company vehicles to ensure they operate as efficiently as possible.
- Reducing energy consumption at our premises and Design Studios through efficient lighting, heating, and equipment use.
Products and suppliers
- Working with suppliers who share our commitment to responsible environmental practices.
- Offering products that contribute to our customers' energy efficiency, including window shutters and blinds that provide thermal insulation and reduce the need for heating and cooling.
- Advising customers on the energy-saving benefits of the products we install.
Compliance
- Complying with all relevant environmental legislation and regulations.
- Disposing of waste through licensed carriers and in accordance with the duty of care requirements under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
4. Incident response
In the event of an environmental incident such as a spillage or improper waste disposal, we will contain the situation, report it to the appropriate authority where required, and take steps to prevent recurrence.
5. Continuous improvement
We regularly review our environmental practices and look for opportunities to improve. We track our waste disposal and review it annually. All employees are encouraged to suggest ways in which we can reduce our environmental impact.
6. Review
This policy is reviewed annually each April to ensure it remains relevant and reflects our current practices and any changes in legislation.
